Graveside funeral service planned for former News-Sentinel arts writer Sharon Little

Little will be laid to rest with a graveside service and burial at 10 a.m. Saturday at Covington Memorial Gardens, 8408 Covington Road.Little was age 83 when she died Dec. 24 at Ashton Creek Health & Rehabilitation Center in Fort Wayne, said an obituary published Sunday.She worked from October 1972 to May 1984 as a reporter at The News-Sentinel, where she covered the local arts and entertainment scene.“She was just a huge patron and lover of the arts who wrote about it well and was well-connected,” said Barb Wachtman, who was assistant Features section editor at the time.Wachtman also described Little as “a gentle, faith-filled woman.”After her time at The News-Sentinel, Little’s career included working as a freelance writer in 2000 and a staff writer from 2001 to 2004 at Today’s Catholic, the newspaper of the Catholic Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend. She also worked with Big Brothers-Big Sisters of Northeast Indiana and the Fort Wayne Medical Society, the obituary said.Little took photos of every Catholic church in the Fort Wayne-South Bend diocese and compiled the images into a book, “Behold the Face of Christ.”She founded a local book club, was an accomplished pianist and sang with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic Chorus, the obituary said. She also was an animal lover and enjoyed bird watching.Arrangements are being handled by Fairhaven Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Fort Wayne.Memorial donations may be made to the Allen County SPCA, 4914 S.
